Carolyn’s Story

Hey sweet friends! I am excited to share a portion of my story with you. Including, why I am passionate about biblical grief care, and how Selah’s Heart began.

I had been working in the birth industry for over 5 years, helping moms create their ideal birth plans, teaching childbirth education, attending births, and helping moms adjust to their new baby in the 4th trimester. It was my dream career at the time, and I loved it.

In January of 2021, my dear friend Lauren had a stillborn baby girl, named Selah. It was Selah’s death that gave me the rude awakening to how bad maternal care was for bereaved mamas. Watching my friend Lauren walk through all the normal postpartum things without her baby, watching her grieve, watching the world around her move on… all of that stirred my heart, and I couldn’t stand by and watch, I needed to change something.

I wanted other moms with empty arms to hear about the hope Jesus offers as they navigate the treacherous waters of grief.

On Mother’s Day 2021 I started a small free bereavement phone service and named it Selah's Heart, to honor Lauren's baby girl. It was my intention to simply talk with mamas who were walking through grief, ask them how they were doing, ask about their baby, and be a friend to them.

Soon, God laid it upon Lauren’s heart to help me in my mission to improve bereavement care for mamas and we formed a partnership. Lauren had a vision to donate boxes to hospitals which contained items to help these precious mamas make lifelong memories with their baby. These boxes have ministered to many Selah's Heart mamas, and we speak to a lot of them on our phone line who call for prayer and encouragement.

What began as a bereavement phone service called, Selah’s Heart, has now grown into a full-blown non-profit ministry, literally serving moms around the world.

I feel so privileged and undeserving that the Lord has chosen me to be a part of this amazing ministry.
